The Bible You Thought You Knew

Dining at Wisdom’s Table

Episode Summary

In this week's episode, I discuss the concepts of Stupidity and Wisdom as Bible categories. What does this mean? Let's find out together!

Episode Notes

Hello everyone, and welcome back to a brand new episode of The Bible You Thought You Knew.

What am I discussing today?

The answer is something a bit different from what you’re used to in this podcast: The concept of stupidity in the Bible.

Or, if I'm being a bit more precise, Stupidity as a Biblical category.

To talk about Stupidity and Wisdom (both capital letters), I'll be delivering a sermon I preached a few years ago at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church.

The sermon is based on a text from the first six verses of Chapter 9 of the Book of Proverbs.

The story in this text highlights Stupidity as a Biblical concept and explains why its opposite is not intelligence but Wisdom.

So, without further ado, let's dive in!

Key points discussed

A reading of Dining at Wisdom's table (00:50)

Giving God ultimate thanks (03:29)

Stupid: A biblical category (05:16)

The rules of Wisdom (07:30)

Does morality increase with modernity? (12:55)

Science and Wisdom (15:42)
