The Bible You Thought You Knew

Jesus and His Personal Bible: A Lively Debate

Episode Summary

In this episode, I invite my old students and friends, Pastor Pat Vance and Old Testament scholar Steve Delamarter, to discuss the reasons behind Christian people's reluctance towards Jesus' Bible, the Old Testament.

Episode Notes

In episodes 2 and 3 of this podcast series, I discussed how Christians view the Old Testament and New Testament in completely different ways.

In the former, God is a vengeful, unforgiving entity, while in the latter, he is loving, forgiving, and merciful.

Naturally, this created a dichotomy in the minds of those of Christian faith. And thus, even though the Old Testament is considered to be Jesus’ Scripture, it’s not viewed as favorably as the New Testament.

This is especially true with the younger generation of Christians. As my guests in this week’s episode, Pat Vance and Steve Delamarter, tell me, young people don’t seem to be enthralled with the Old Testament.

To them, it’s too dark and too violent.

Why are Christians so dismissive of Jesus’ Bible? Why are their feelings about the Old Testament so negative? And what can we do to change these attitudes?

In this episode of The Bible You Thought You Knew, I discuss all of this with my two esteemed guests. So, tune in to learn more about the Old Testament, how Pastor Pat Vance worked on changing attitudes in his ministry, and the importance of learning about both testaments!
